it’s thursday. the first day i am to post about health. this is somewhat ironic due to the fact that today i am recovering from a pretty bad cold & also tried my first mcdonald’s shamrock shake. health is obviously not at the forefront of my mind.

something that is, however, is lent. i have never thought twice about lent. i was curious to look it up, motivated to do so after i saw many of my friends on facebook posting about what they were “giving up for lent”. it is my understanding lent is about sacrifice. for the first time ever this year, in the name of health, sacrifice, & positive change (motivated by this blog!), i have decided to give lent a try.

i am giving up alcohol. it’s not that i am a heavy drinker. i probably consume about 1-5 alcoholic drinks per week (mostly beer). lately, though, i’ve been noticing that following even a single beverage, my stomach hurts & my sleep quality is poor. if i want to be totally honest, i probably even rely a little too often on a beer or two to help me relax. this is something i need to learn how to do on my own.

so that’s that! no alcohol until easter! i think i’ll be a little better off for the experience.

what about you? have you ever given up something that proved to be extremely challenging, extremely rewarding… or both?
